La preservación digital de documentos electrónicos de archivo: una materia pendiente en América Latina

Resumen

El aumento en el volumen de información que se produce electrónicamente en el mundo, plantea una amplia diversidad de problemas tanto para los productores, las áreas de TI, como para quienes tienen la responsabilidad de gestionarla a lo largo de su ciclo de vida. Uno de los aspectos que ha recibido menos atención tiene que ver sobre cómo preservar la información que verdaderamente tiene valor para una organización o para la sociedad, de aquella que no tiene tal mérito. 

En este artículo se plantean algunas ideas sobre el rol de los archivistas para contribuir a resolver la dicotomía entre conservarlo todo y seleccionar lo que tienen valor para las futuras generaciones, asegurando que la información mantenga su autenticidad, confiabilidad, disponibilidad e integridad.

ABSTRACT

The increase in the volume of information that is produced electronically in the world poses a wide variety of problems both for producers, IT areas, and for those who are responsible for managing it throughout its life cycle. One of the aspects that has received less attention has to do with how to preserve the information that truly has value for an organization or for society, from that which does not have such merit.

This article presents some ideas about the role that archivists can play in helping to resolve the dichotomy between conserving everything and selecting what has value for future generations, ensuring that information maintains its authenticity, reliability, availability and integrity.
